What Is The Best Way To Pack A Package For Shipment?

Recommended practices for most packages are described below. Consult the postal guide for information on how to package specialized items.

Choose a good quality rigid corrugated cardboard box. If you reuse a box, remember to remove the old shipping labels and cover the old addresses.

If the item is fragile, wrap it in tissue paper or newspaper. For items shipped in a frame, such as paintings, protect the front and back with strong cardboard extending beyond the frame. Place soft materials between the frame and the cardboard to reduce pressure on the glass.

Pack the item in a sealed container small enough to fit inside the shipping box.

Place a label with the recipient’s address and the return address on the container, then place the container inside the shipping box.

Wrap cushioning material (such as an old t-shirt or bubble wrap) around the inner container’s top, bottom, and sides to limit movement and protect the item.

Seal the shipping box with reinforced tape

Write the recipient’s address and return address on the box’s top (largest side).

If you’re using a shipping label, make sure it’s visible and flat against the box’s longest side. The label must not overlap the edges of the box or be affixed over any edge or closure strip. Do not place strapping or tape over the label. Once you’re done, take your package to any post office. If you used prepaid shipping supplies, you could drop your package off at any mailbox.

Special Shipping Boxes

There are also boxes with Brandt Box & Paper Co for example designed for specific uses:

Shipping bottles: the carton has a suitable shape to transport bottles completely and securely. It also has a reinforced self-adhesive closure.

Shipping binders: Shipping boxes are specifically designed to transport A4-size binders. This allows them to be wedged perfectly and to avoid unexpected openings inside the package or damage due to shocks during transport.

If cardboard is predominant in shipping packaging, there are other solutions, such as wood, metal, or plastic. It is, however, rare to meet them, and they will be reserved for particular uses, taking care to respect certain instructions. For example, if you want to ship a package in plain wooden packaging, many countries will require it to be ISPM15 certified. This standard is essential to guarantee that the wood and the pests it is likely to contain will not contaminate the plant biodiversity of the country of destination.
